Mike Cornell here with Quick News of the Weird. Medical experts in Australia are pleading with snake bite victims to stop bringing the VERY MUCH ALIVE offending serpents with them to the hospital. One doctor said a snake bite victim came into the hospital earlier this month with a highly venomous eastern brown snake in a poorly secured plastic container. Another doctor at another Australian hospital heard of several cases where snake bite victims brought the snake with them when seeking treatment. Come on, doctors! It's called bragging rights. They can have the my-snake-is-deadlier-than-yours conversations while they're in the waiting room. It's better than looking through the old magazines. The medical folks say bringing the live snakes in doesn't help with the treatment and if the snakes escape in the emergency rooms that becomes a huge disaster. Ok...point taken. Hospital staff are not trained to identify snakes but they can perform tests to determine whether a bite victim needs anti-venom. One hospital was forced to post this message on their website.." Cutting the wound, sucking the venom or bringing the snake with you are not recommended". Australians are pretty tough people. They should amend that posting to include not bringing in crocodiles, spiders and rabid kangaroos. When I was living down in Georgia, victims of snake bite would bring snakes to the hospital...but only after then had been shot and run over by a pick up truck 4 or 5 times.
